Exciting yet challenging times lie ahead. The
electrical power industry is undergoing rapid
change. Rising cost of energy, mass
electrification of everyday’s life, and Climate
Change are the major drivers which will
determine the speed at which such
transformations will occur.
However, regardless of how fast or how slow
various utilities embrace Smart Grid concepts,
technologies and systems, they all agree on
the inevitability of this massive
transformation. A move which will not only
impact their business processes, but also their
organization and technologies.
Moreover, Utilities across the world have
realized that investments in Smart Grid are
substantial and costly in the long run. As
such, the industry all over the world is trying
to develop national roadmaps for the
development of Smart Grid. Such roadmaps
identify the objectives, applications,
technologies, interfaces and standards which
need to be followed by the electrical utilities
and the industry to ensure an orderly
transition from the existing Grid to the future
Smart Grid. As an example, the Department
of Energy (DoE) of the United States Federal
Government has sponsored initiatives such as
Gridwise Alliance to help develop such
roadmaps.
The absence of a strategic plan for the
development of Smart Grid in Iran will have
serious consequences for the Iranian
Electrical Industry. As the government
authority overseeing this industry, Tavanir is
expected to take the lead in charting a
strategic plan and roadmap for guiding the
Iranian utilities through this difficult
transition from AMR to AMI and eventually
to Smart Grid.

Iran's energy efficiency (SABA) has been started the first phase Smart Grid in Iran (that is named FAHAM plan). The first stage, intelligent measurement system for about a million and a maximum of five zones in different regions will be implemented within two years. For more information, you can visit…

Dear Mostafa,
There are several projects running right now for Smart Grid purpose in Illinois. As a researcher in Galvin center electricity Innovation, I know we are preparing more than 5 proposals for Smart Grid implementation in Illinois. Galvin Center currently is the principal investigator (PI) of over $35 million grants on smart grid and sustainable energy. I appreciate your interest in following the news in this website.
