With support from the Illinois Smart Grid Regional Innovation Cluster (ISGRIC), SmartGrid.com was initially developed as a business unit of global energy consulting company, Adica LLC.  In September 2011, this business unit was spun off to form Smart Grid Network, Inc. as an independent company.

About ISGRIC: On September 20, 2010, the U.S. Small Business Administration announced the award of up to $600K to Illinois Institute of Technology (IIT), in collaboration with the Clean Energy Trust, the Illinois Science & Technology Coalition (ISTC) and O-H Community Partners, to accelerate small business and start-up development in the growing Illinois Smart Grid Regional Innovation Cluster. The grant supports the first year of development of an innovation platform for Smart Grid technology that will provide technical and business support to speed new Smart Grid technologies on the path to commercialization.
